UPDATED: 15-Year-Old Killed Saturday Night Was Likely Targeted, According to Providence Police

Providence police say they suspect that the 15-year-old boy who was shot and killed late Saturday night was targeted.

According to initial reports, police say they believe the victim and friends were meeting someone in the area of 39/41 Wallace Avenue in the Silver Lake neighborhood shortly after 11 PM.

UPDATE: Providence Police officials will be holding a press conference on Monday.

A man reportedly appeared from the street with a gun — and shot the victim, according to witnesses.

“Last night, Providence experienced a tragic loss when a teenage boy was shot and killed,” said Mayor Jorge Elorza on Sunday morning. “Our community mourns for his family, friends and our community who will all be impacted by this senseless act of violence."

"This matter is still under investigation and if anyone has any information regarding what happened, please contact the Providence Police," Elorza added.
