NEW: Major Coronavirus Outbreak at RI Nursing Home

Rhode Island health officials are working to contain a new COVID-19 outbreak at a nursing home.

According to the Rhode Island Department of Health, in the last 14 days, there have been between 25 and 29 cases identified at Bannister Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Providence. 

"We are working with the facility’s administrators to make sure that residents are being separated, and infection control measures are being put in place throughout," said RIDOH spokesperson Joseph Wendelken.

In the last 14 days, there have been between 30-34 new cases in all congregate settings in total around the state. 

Rhode Island ranks second in the country in the percentage of cases linked to nursing homes -- roughly 80%.

The state has the 5th highest overall death rate in the United States per 100,000 residents 

 

Data Around State

On Friday, RIDOH reported overall 74 new positive cases and 1 new fatality. 

The three day average of people hospitalized is at 67, up from the three-day average low of 60 on July 7.
