A man was arrested in possession of a taser -- and pepper spray -- in downtown Providence on New Year's Eve.

About Incident

Providence police responded to the area of Dorrance and Washington Streets shortly after 6 PM Sunday night for a report of suspicious activity.

The caller told police they were being chased by an individual demanding money, who had been pepper spraying people.

Police said they located a person -- later identified as Alvin Franco, age 22 -- matching the suspect description.

He was found to be in possession of pepper spray as well as a taser, according to police.

Police say Franco was arrested and taken to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation and is facing disorderly conduct charges.
