Self-Declared Rap Contest Winner Beaten and Hospitalized in Providence
A 22-year-old man told Providence police that when he declared he won a "rap battle" he was competing in — he was then jumped and beaten by a group of men including his competitor in the contest.

Providence police responded to Miriam Hospital Saturday morning for a report of an assault victim.

The victim told police he had gone to a house party on Smith Street with a friend, and engaged in a “rap battle” with another man.
Police report that the victim said he “won the rap battle” — at which time his opponent punched him, knocking him to the ground.
The victim told police that while he was on the ground, multiple people began kicking him in the head and torso.
He said his friend took him out of the party and brought him home, before he went to seek medical treatment.
Detectives are currently investigating.
