Shortly before 9 PM on Sunday night, Providence police responded to the Shell gas station at 5 Elmwood Avenue for a report of a robbery.

Police said they met with the victim -- a male in his early 50s -- who said he was cleaning car windshields at the gas station — when he was accosted by a man and a woman demanding money

The victim said one of the individuals then proceeded to pepper spray him, and that one of the suspects reached into the pockets of his jeans and took two $20 bills.

According to police, the victim said the suspects fled on foot — and he was not able to see what direction they fled, due to the impact of the pepper spray.

Detectives are currently investigating.
