Man Jumped, Assaulted, and Robbed in Downtown Providence

Providence police are investigating a report of a robbery and assault in the city overnight. 

About Incident 

Shortly before 2 AM Saturday morning, Providence, police responded to Francis Street for the report of the crime.

Police said they met the victim — a male in his 30s — near an entrance to Providence Place Mall.

The victim, who police way was bleeding from the head and had cuts to his face, said he had been walking when he was jumped by three unidentified males.

He said he was struck by a metal object and that the suspects took cash from his backpack before fleeing.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment; detectives are currently investigating.
