Man Reportedly Attempted to Stab Mother in Providence, Spat at Police When Arrested

According to police, the suspect — who was arrested after a reported struggle with officers — had told his mother he was going to kill her.

On Monday night, police responded to Prairie Avenue for a report of a stabbing.
The female victim told police she believed her son was under the influence of drugs.
According to the victim, her son became belligerent, grabbed a screwdriver and held it to her neck, and then threatened to kill her.
The victim reportedly sustained injuries in an ensuing fight and her son fled the residence.
According to police, based on the description given, they located the suspect nearby a short time after the reported incident.
When asked for identification, police say that the suspect gave them a fake name; police then searched the suspect and found his wallet confirming him as the woman's son.
Police say the man then resisted arrest, bit at least one officer, and also spat at police.
The suspect was placed into custody.
