Providence police are investigating a shooting in the city overnight.

According to police, officers responded to the area of Providence and Pearl Streets shortly before 10:30 PM on Tuesday for a report of shots fired.

Police were then informed a male gunshot victim was at Rhode Island Hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound to his arm.

The victim told police he had been in his vehicle when he was shot at.

Police say the victim's vehicle had multiple bullet holes; shell casings were found at the scene.

Detectives are currently investigating.
