On Thursday, Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee is scheduled to hold a press conference on a report regarding the hack of the state’s computer system.  That cyberattack has wreaked havoc and impacted more than 600,000 Rhode Islanders.

In December 2024 - at an unprecedented Friday press conference - McKee informed Rhode Islanders of the hack. The Rhode Island State Auditor had previously warned about security risks for RIBridges.

In February 2025, Deloitte paid the state $5 million to compensate for the ransomware attack.

McKee and Chief Digital Officer Brian Tardiff will provide an update on the RIBridges data breach, including an overview of CrowdStrike’s independent analysis of the breach.

McKee’s record on investigations is questionable at best.

In March of 2024, at a press conference, McKee outlined how the Washington Bridge would be completed by August of 2025 and would cost between $250 million and $300 million.

Now, 14 months after the press conference, no contract has been awarded to replace the failed bridge. The bridge is not expected to be completed for years. He said that a "day of reckoning" would be forthcoming for those responsible; to date there has yet to be one.

What may be more important in resolving the data breach is what is happening in federal court in Providence.

Consolidation of Class Action Suits

The first complaint against Deloitte was filed on December 15, 2024, by plaintiff Ronald Pannozzi against Deloitte in federal court. The 44-page lawsuit alleged negligence; breach of implied contract; unjust enrichment; and a seeking of ‘declaratory judgment’ by the court.

Clair Taraborelli filed a similar class action complaint on December 16, 2024; then Armand Lucchetti on December 17, 2024; then Lori Marchand and Monica Depina on December 30, 2024; then Luciano Morales, Jr., on January 7, 2025.

As GoLocal reported, Motley Rice, representing Renee Triguiero, filed a 65-page complaint on January 15, 2025.

A motion to consolidate cases was filed on March 19, 2025, and on March 28, 2025, all six parties filed a 71-page amended complaint.

On May 14, 2025, the consolidated case was “assigned/reassigned” according to court records.
