About Incident

Shortly after midnight Friday morning, police who were posted at Mezzo Lounge on Charles Street for closing reported seeing a large crowd form at a hot dog vendor in the Walmart parking lot across the street.

Police said they then saw multiple individuals start fighting next to the hot dog stand, and that a large crowd -- of approximately 150 people -- then started to become unruly and required multiple additional units being called to assist.

According to police, all subjects that were then being dispersed from the parking lot had been observed exiting Mezzo Lounge.

Police said they then witnessed a disturbance with five people actively fighting with each other.

A male — later identified as Jay-Juam Hayes, age 21 — reportedly fled the scene upon seeing police and after a foot pursuit was apprehended.

Hayes’ brother, later identified as Jansel Hayes, age 19, also was observed fighting before fleeing from police; he was ultimately apprehended.

Police said that a third male — Sean Houtman Wolchesky, age 20 — was also observed to be fighting with both Hayes brothers and was placed into custody without incident.

Jay-Jaum Hayes, Jansel Hayes and Houtman Wolchesky were all placed into custody, transported to Central Station and were held on charges of Disorderly Conduct.

Police noted that Jay-Juam Hayes was “belligerent” while being transported to Central Station and told a Patrolman he hoped that he “has a daughter and she gets sexually assaulted.”

According to police, all officers had their body-worn cameras activated during the incident.
