Mollis Announces First Candidates to Qualify for Ballot

Less than one hour after signatures were due yesterday, Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis announced that several Congressional and statewide candidates had already qualified for the ballot.

The candidates are: Mollis himself, Elizabeth Roberts for lieutenant governor, Peter Kilmartin for Attorney General, Gina Raimondo for General Treasurer, and Jim Langevin for Congress in the Second District. All the candidates are Democrats.

The signatures were due at 4 p.m. Friday and the Secretary of State’s office has until July 23 to certify all of the signatures, confirming that the candidates will appear on the ballot in the Sept. 14 primary and Nov. 2 general election. Most statewide offices require 500 signatures while 1,000 are needed for governor.
