NAACP President Jim Vincent to Receive "Living the Dream" Award

Jim Vincent, President of the NAACP's Providence branch, has been selected by the Rhode Island Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission as this year's "Living the Dream" Award recipient.

"For a poor kid of immigrant parents growing up in inner city Boston, I have been given opportunities to succeed that others who came before me were not given," said Vincent. "I realize and can never forget that I stand on their shoulders and the shoulders of others. I am "Living the Dream", the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and that's why I feel so strongly about giving back."

Besides heading the Providence branch of the NAACP, Vincent also serves as president to the East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) and the Rhode Island Affirmative Action Professionals (RIAAP). He also serves on the boards of African Alliance of Rhode Island (AARI) and the Rhode Island College Crusade, and is a member of the Cape Verdean Progressive Center.
