National Weather Service Issues Wind, Coastal Flood Advisories for RI

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for much of Rhode Island starting early Monday morning. 

A wind advisory is in effect starting 4 AM Monday — and a coastal flood advisory starting 6 AM Monday.

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 10 AM EST MONDAY...

* WHAT...East to southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50
  mph expected.

* WHERE...Portions of eastern, northeastern and southeastern
  Massachusetts and northern Rhode Island.

* WHEN...From 4 AM to 10 AM EST Monday.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects.
  Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may
  result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 9 AM EST
MONDAY...

* WHAT...One half foot to one foot of inundation above ground
  level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal
  waterways (5.6 to 7.6 feet Mean Lower Low Water).

* WHERE...In Massachusetts, Southern Bristol MA County. In Rhode
  Island, Southeast Providence RI, Eastern Kent RI, Bristol RI,
  Washington RI and Newport RI Counties.

* WHEN...From 6 AM to 9 AM EST Monday.

* IMPACTS...Minor coastal flooding occurs along the most
  vulnerable shoreline locales in Newport, Portsmouth and
  Middletown. This includes flooding at parking lots near
  beaches in Newport, and a portion of Hazard Road. Minor
  coastal flooding also occurs on several streets in the Common
  Fence Point area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.
