NEW: 2020 Car Tax Bills to Go Out in Warwick

Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi announced Tuesday that the city’s 2020 car tax bills are being mailed out this month. 

According to the statement from Picozzi's office, the 2020 bills were delayed due to the General Assembly’s budget process and the uncertainty on whether the state would continue the planned gradual phase-out of the tax.  

Now that the budget process has been completed and the phase-out program funded, residents and business owners with registered vehicles will receive their tax bill mid-January.

“I know it’s frustrating receiving a bill with such a short period of time between payments, but the payment plan has to be completed by the end of June to be part of this year’s budget and be eligible for reimbursement from the state," said Picozzi.

What Residents Should Know

According to City Hall, the average car tax bill will decline by more than 11% this year compared to last year’s car taxes. The Tax Collector is offering a grace period for each of the four quarterly payment due dates in accordance with state law. 

The schedule is as follows for this year: February 15th, March 15th, May 15th and June 15th. Taxpayers also have the choice to pay the entire amount in one payment as long as it’s received on or before February 15th, 2021. 

The motor vehicle tax bills are available online on the city’s website at www.warwickri.gov
