Assistant Rhode Island Attorney General Devon Hogan Flanagan pleaded "nolo" on Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of willful trespass stemming from her arrest on August 14 at the Clarke Cooke House in Newport.

"Do you understand that nolo is the same as 'I'm guilty' and 'I did it' under our case law?" asked Judge Joseph Houlihan at the hearing.

"Yes, your honor," she replied.

The agreement between the state prosecution and defense is that Flanagan will receive a "six-month filing, [and] no return to the Cooke House restaurant."

A filing means the case can be dismissed in six months if she has no other legal trouble during that time period.

This week, Attorney General Peter Neronha announced that Flanagan would be placed on a six-month unpaid suspension.
