NEW: Budget Commission Appointed in Woonsocket

A 5-member budget commission has been formed to help address Woonsocket’s financial woes, Governor Chafee confirmed Monday.

The commission includes Peder Schaefer, associate director of the League of Cities and Towns; East Greenwich Town Administrator Bill Sequino; Dina DuTremble; Mayor Leo Fontaine; and City Council President John Ward.

The commission comes less than a week after House lawmakers killed legislation that would have allowed the cash-strapped city to enforce a 13 percent supplemental property tax hike on residents.
