GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTIt is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Chief Robert Dauphinais. The Chief did not immediately surrender to his injuries, but put up a valiant and obstinate battle to recover. Despite his strong will and the best medical care, he was unable to continue the fight. While we mourn the loss of our leader, we like to think of how fortunate we have been to have Chief Dauphinais in our department and our lives.
Over 30 years ago, Chief Dauphinais joined the Chepachet Fire Department as a junior firefighter. Over time, his hard work and commitment allowed him to rise through the department’s ranks. During that time he not only served the community but also grew the department and helped develop the members, many of whom have gone on to careers in public service. We lost a friend and guiding influence whose presence always lead the way in responding to emergencies and department duties while serving as a reminder of the responsibility we have to each other and to our community.
In addition to being the department’s Chief, Robert Dauphinais was also a loving husband, devoted father, caring brother and respected town employee. Please keep the Chief’s family in your thoughts. Details regarding final arrangements will be provided as they become available.
The Accident
On the afternoon of July 7, 2019, Dauphinais and his wife Ericka were involved in a very serious motorcycle accident in Wrentham which left Dauphinais critically injured.
He was flown by helicopter to Boston Medical Center.
His wife is recovering from less serious injuries sustained in the accident.
A GoFundMe Page was set up by family friends to help pay for medical bills.
As of Tuesday, July 23, the page has raised over $22,000.
