Amanpour graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island in 1983 with a degree in journalism. During her time at URI, she worked in the news department at WBRU-FM at Brown.
A British-Iranian journalist and television host, Amanpour is the Chief International Anchor for CNN and host of CNN International's nightly interview program Amanpour. She is also the host of Amanpour & Company on PBS.

Amanpour, 63, is one of the best-known journalists in the world, and has won multiple awards and honors, including the 2002 Edward R. Murrow Award for Distinguished Achievement in Broadcast Journalism.
She received an honorary doctor of laws degree from URI in 1995 and has received numerous honorary doctorate degrees from Harvard, Amherst, the University of Michigan, and more.
Amanpour, who had been off the air for the past four weeks due to the diagnosis and treatment, was back on air on Monday, discussing United States President Joe Biden’s and NATO’s approach to Russia and China.
