Healey ran multiple times for Rhode Island Governor and Lt. Governor. In 2010, Healey won 39% of the vote for Lieutenant Governor, when he ran on a platform of abolishing the office.

Running on the Moderate Party ticket for Governor in 2014, Healey won 22% of the vote while spending less than $39 on the campaign.

Healey wrote:

I want to lead Rhode Island in a cerebral revolution, a non-violent movement to alter the way Rhode Islanders think.

I want to bridge the divide that keeps Rhode Island from reaching its potential.  I want Rhode Island to be true to its original constitutional provisions.  I want people to live and prosper within a context that embraces their individual rights and liberties, under an effective and efficient government.  I want to remove the chains of governmental enslavement that created the financial crisis threatening our very existence of the State.

In 2010, after Healey lost to then Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts, he offered his thoughts on that run with GoLocal in a piece "Voters Getting What They Deserve."

I always heard that money buys elections. I honestly thought that the message could beat money. The negative ads and a half million dollar campaign by Lt. Governor Roberts proved me wrong. I spent about $5,000 of my own money on this election. My opponent spent over $500,000 of campaign contributions from health care, insurance interests, doctors, and lawyer. Hmmmm. Yes, it sounds impossible to grow even more cynical about Rhode Island politics, but then again, someone once intoned that no one should ever underestimate the stupidity of the public.

I guess the biggest surprise was the Liz Roberts attack ad, but at that point I had her on the run and her campaign flunkies (who were more interested in keeping their employment than keeping her integrity) knew that she could run the attack ad with no retaliation because I hadn't fooled anyone into giving me campaign donations. It was the first time anyone spent a quarter of a million dollars on me. I was flattered. Who says elections are won by "a pretty face"?

Healey pushed Rhode Island voters during that campaign to know that powers the Lt. Governor has -- or does not have.
