Cranston Police Make Arrest in Armed Robbery of Gas Station

Richard is alleged to have committed an armed robbery at a local gas station investigated by members of the Cranston Police Department Patrol and Detective Divisions.

GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTShortly before 1 PM on January 7, 2022, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Ocean State Mobil gas station and convenience store located at 1282 Elmwood Avenue in Cranston.
The store clerk reported that a male suspect entered the store, threatened her with a knife, and demanded all of the cash in the register. The suspect, later identified as Richard, exited the store with an undisclosed amount of money and fled in a nearby car seen traveling east on Park Avenue.
The vehicle had been reported stolen from the parking lot of a restaurant in Providence earlier in the day and was found abandoned in that city by Providence Police Officers.
Over the next several weeks, members of the Detective Division’s Criminal Investigation Unit followed several leads that resulted in the identification of Richard as the suspect.
On March 2, 2022, at approximately 9:00 am, Cranston Police Detectives and members of the Providence Police Department responded to Richard’s residence in Providence and placed him into custody without incident.
Richard was arraigned in Third District Court on the charge of 1st Degree Robbery and is currently being held at the ACI Intake Center on $30,000 surety bail.
