NEW DATA: Number of RI Coronavirus Hospitalizations Continue to Spike, 9 Deaths Over Weekend

The weekend data released Tuesday by the Rhode Island Department of Health shows that the number of hospitalizations has jumped to 126 and shows a nearly doubling in the past month.

The additional data point of concern — the number of new cases. Rhode Island reported 129 new cases on limited testing — just 5,855 tests were conducted on Monday.  Most of the weekend state officials shut down many of the testing locations.

Testing continues to be inconsistent in Rhode Island.

There were also 9 fatalities over the long weekend. Now, 1,139 have died from the virus since March.

Dr. Michael Fine, the former Rhode Island Health Director, warned on GoLocal LIVE on Tuesday that Rhode Island's trajectory points to more cases and continued growth in hospitalizations.

There were a total of 666 new cases while testing was closed much of the weekend.
