NEW: DePetro Accuses Martin and Dufault of Being Behind Threats

Embroiled radio station host John DePetro told East Providence police officers he believes that Maureen Martin and Brad Dufault "may be behind"  threats he has been receiving over comments he made on air regarding female teachers' union members.

Martin is the Secretary-Treasurer of the RI AFL-CIO, Dufault is a veteran political operative who is a partner with the public affairs group Checkmate Consulting.

DePetro gave a statement to East Providence Police on December 3 after he alleged he was approached by two men who threatened him in the parking lot outside of his work at WPRO. The incident report has been made public, which contained the allegations against Martin and Dufault.

"I haven't heard anything from the [East Providence] police," said Martin when asked about the report. "It seems like he's deflecting something here. There's nothing in my history that would indicate in any way that I would behind any violence or threats of violence."

Martin continued, "We do have a full-fledged campaign that is up-front and posted -- we've been asking people not to go on air, we've asked the general manger to see their files. [DePetro] could have named Santa Claus. It's bizarre that he can name someone like that, and put it in print like this." Martin added, "There's no credibility to his story at all. It all sounded so fishy."

On Friday December 6, DePetro, radio talk show host at WPRO AM, apologized on air for comments he had made on his show in September. DePetro has come under fire from leading union leaders via a group asking advertisers to boycott advertisers and Cumulus radio.

Incident Report Made Public

In the incident report filed with the East Providence Police and taken by Patrol Officer Kris Ellinwood, DePetro claims he was accosted by two men a grey pick up truck on the morning of December 3 in the WPRO parking lot, who yelled "You're f--king with the wrong people and we are going to knock you off the radio. Then we are going to knock your f--king head off because you have a big f--king mouth."

DePetro said he looked in the truck and saw that the passenger had something in his hand, and ran back to his car. He then saw the truck with Rhode Island plates exit the lot, when DePetro called the police, who he told he had been getting threats vie e-mail and Twitter, and that Martin and Dufault may be behind them.

Dufault told GoLocal that he had not been contacted by the East Providence Police, and that he deferred all comment to Martin.  "It's no surprise or secret we support the effort she's leading," said Dufault.

Ellinwood requested the case be forwarded to the Detective Division for further investigation.
