Dog Bites Boy in Warwick, Mom Seeks Owner Who Took Off - Child Faces Rabies Shots

April Doyle said that shortly before noon on Wednesday, she and her son were walking in Warwick City Park, when they encountered a woman walking a dog — and her son asked her if he could pet the animal.
“A woman in her mid-50s was walking on the bike path with her German Shepard,” said Doyle. “My son asked if he could pet the dog. She said yes, that her dog was very nice. ‘Very friendly’ is what she said.”

“Someone told the animal patrol car they saw someone with a dog getting in a car — it was a red Ford Focus,” said Doyle.
Warwick Police did not respond to request for comment at time of publication.
Rabies of Concern
“Thankfully he doesn’t need any stitches,” said Doyle, who brought her son to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
“But who sees a three-year-old get bit by your dog and runs away and doesn’t even make sure that he’s OK? Just give me the information about the dog to make sure your dog doesn’t have something that will affect my child," she said.
“I understand accidents happen and dogs get excited,” said Doyle. “But if they don’t find the dog within the week, they have to do a rabies course [of shots].”
