New Dragon Boats Welcomed in Providence

 

New dragon boats were unveiled in Providence on Saturday.

GoLocal’s Richard McCaffrey was there to capture the unveiling and the ceremony.

 

 

 

 

Colleen Cranshaw, the President of Century Dragon Boat Club, said the event features a ceremonial Eye Dotting to “awaken” the spirit of the dragons before they take to the water.

This time-honored ritual symbolizes protection, strength, and guidance for safe and successful journeys.  

 

 

 

 

Following that event, there was a traditional Lion Dance featuring a performer accompanied by live drums and cymbals. As part of the tradition, the lion was offered lettuce and oranges as symbols of blessing and protection.
