Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza is scheduled to travel to Hawaii this weekend -- for the 87th Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Amidst eleventh-hour budget battles with the City Council and on the heels of the release of the Johns Hopkins education report citing that Providence has one of, if not the worst, school systems in the U.S. -- Elorza is slated to leave the city to head across the country to join Mayors at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

According to the conferences website, he is scheduled to moderate such segments as Immigration: Responding to Current Challenges and 2020 Census: Moving Forward After the Citizenship Decision

The conference will take place June 28-July 1 and will be presided over by Columbia, South Carolina Mayor Steve Benjamin and is hosted by Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell.

Also scheduled to attend from Rhode Island is Central Falls Mayor James Diossa, who is the Co-Chair of the Small Cities Committee.
