NEW: Five Sailors at Newport to Become U.S. Citizens

Five sailors will become American citizens at a naturalization ceremony this Thursday.

U.S. Senator Jack Reed will administer the Oath of Allegiance to four Midshipman Candidates, Fabio Garcia, Eliud Martinez, Hlan Thaw, Mariano Gabriel De Los Reyes Veloria, and one Navy Chief assigned to the Naval Academy Prep School, Leonardo Bermudez.

Upon completion of the ceremony, the five individuals will become the newest Americans in the Navy and Marine Corps. Taking the Oath of Allegiance is the final step in becoming a U.S. citizen.

The event is at 11:45 a.m. Beirut Memorial Hall auditorium, Naval Station Newport Senator.
