NEW: Homeless RI Man Dying of Cancer Seeks Help Finding Home for Cat

A man saying that he is homeless — and dying of stage IV cancer — dropped his cat off at a Warwick animal clinic on Thursday, leaving a note saying that he hopes they can find his cat a home.

Rhode Island Animal Medical Center and Four Paws Pet Resort found the cat in a crate Thursday morning, with the following unsigned note attached. (See actual letter below).

Please take care of a wonderful friend — I can no longer be a good parent to him. I cannot give him a home as I no longer have one.

I am now homeless and facing the final months of life with terminal advanced stage IV cancer.

God is good.

Seeking New Owners

“We have a well-cared for kitty here who’s a neutered male who appears to be healthy. In fact, he’s quite well-fed,” said Chad Callanan with the RI Animal Medical Center.  “We just want whoever might know the man who dropped him off to know that we will find him a good home.”

Callanan, who showed GoLocalProv camera footage showing a man dropping off the cat, said that “drop-offs” of pets are not that common.

In order to protect the man's anonymity, GoLocal did not publish the video.

“It doesn’t happen too often,” said Callahan. “We gave the cat a full set of tests. For folks who are interested, he’s a chubby, well-fed middle-aged cat.”
