Hospitalizations Continue to Climb in RI, Placing More Pressure on Stressed Hospital System

Coronavirus hospitalizations in Rhode Island continue to keep surging upward, according to new data released by the Rhode Island Department of Health on Friday.

According to RIDOH’s latest data, there are 250 people currently hospitalized with coronavirus in the state — and new hospital admissions by week have surged nearly 40%.

As GoLocal reported on Friday, "At RI’s Rate of Increase of Coronavirus, State Headed for Thousands of New Cases Per Day."

Latest Numbers

The state reported 710 new cases on Thursday on 13,781 tests. 

College cases amounted for 29 of the cases — and 4,792 of the overall testing number.

Factoring in higher education and asymptomatic testing, the real positivity rate in the state stands at 7.57 percent.

There were also 4 additional COVID-related deaths.
