North Providence Employee Fired After Racist N-Word Social Media Rant

A North Providence town employee has been terminated after sending a racist message on Facebook laced with use the n-word.

Darren Barnes, who worked in the North Providence Police Department, has now been fired.

“I will split your [n-word] living head in two,” Barnes purportedly wrote in a message to an unnamed individual. 

The message was then circulated on social media, and the Town of North Providence was made aware. 

“He was not an officer, he worked in the Department — he was a town employee,” North Providence Police Chief Arthur Martins told GoLocal Friday morning. 

“The town was made aware of the situation and officials met Friday morning,” said Martins. “He was subsequently dismissed.”
