NEW: Two Dead Including the Shooter and Two Wounded in Westerly

GoLocal has learned that the shooter is now dead from a self-inflicted wound in an apartment at the Babcock Village housing complex in Westerly, RI.

In total, two people are dead and two have been wounded.

None of the victims' names have been released.

The shooter was believed to be a tenant of the apartment complex in which the shooting took place.

Just announced Westerly High School is dismissing students at 1:00 PM and buses are picking up early.

As GoLocal reported earlier:

Westerly Public Schools are on lockdown following reports of a multiple-victim shooting in Westerly Thursday morning.

Law enforcement sources tell GoLocal that three people have been shot. 

According to the district’s Facebook page, all Westerly Public Schools are on lockdown. 

“All Westerly Public Schools are locked down until further notice. preK dismissal will be delayed,” writes Westerly Public Schools on their Facebook page.

Westerly Hospital now states that they are operational -- earlier they had been in lockdown.

Shooting in Westerly

According to multiple sources, the Rhode Island State Police and Westerly Police are investigating a shooting that took place on Cross Street in Westerly’s Babcock Village. 

The State Police SWAT team has been deployed and are on the scene.

According to a tweet from Westerly dispatch, an emergency call came in at approximately 10:30 a.m. to Cross Street.

According to reports, there may be “multiple victims” involved. It is unknown if police have anyone in custody.
