New Parking App Passport Launches at Parking Meters in Providence

The app, available to download for iPhone and Android, allows drivers to pay for metered parking from their phones. Mayor Jorge Elorza's parking meter strategy has been widely criticized as being anti-small business.
"We’re excited to offer this industry-leading technology to our residents and visitors in Providence. The City of Providence is committed to providing the most user-friendly parking experience possible, and we believe that the addition of Passport’s app will do just that. Users will have the flexibility to manage their parking from their phones, offering easier payment options and notifications of meter expiration,” said Mayor Jorge Elorza.

Instead of paying the meter, users can purchase parking in the app, monitor their session and extend time remotely.
Users can preload funds on their app for payment.
The app is now available at on-street metered parking where Passport signage is located.
The following streets already have signs and labels installed:
- Thayer Street
- Meeting Street
- Euclid Avenue
- Westminster Street
- Union Street
- Canal Street
According to the city, all streets with meters will be included in the program and the roll out will continue through the spring.
