Police Respond to Shooting by Elorza's House - Second Time in One Month

Providence police responded to a report of a shooting by Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza's house on Saturday night.

The shooting in proximity to Elorza's residence marks the second report of gun violence in the area in less than a month, after an incident on September 12. 

In June 2019, there was a shooting incident in the vicinity as well.

Saturday Night

Police were dispatched to 34 Dorchester Avenue just before 9 PM on Saturday night for a report of a shooting. 

Upon arrival police located two subjects on the ground in the driveway being tended to by family. 

The first victim had an apparent gunshot wound to the eye. The second victim had several gunshot wounds to his torso. The two victims were transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Providence rescue.

While on the scene, police were able to learn that three males had made their way to the backyard, and once there, started firing multiple rounds towards a group that was hanging out in the driveway by their vehicles. 

The three unidentified males then exited the backyard and were picked up by a car -- which struck another vehicle on Plainfield Street while fleeing the scene. 

Firearm Recovered

While securing the scene, Police located a silver firearm with blood on it on the ground underneath one of the vehicles the victims had been standing at during the time of the shooting. 

The firearm along with an adjacent cellphone were seized by detectives on the scene. 

Police were able to locate several casings and projectiles in the driveway of 34 Dorchester as well as locating several casings in the backyard where the three suspects had been seen shooting at the group of subjects. 

Two vehicles, as well as the house, and fences around the property had damage from being struck by gunfire.
