President Obama has chosen to nominated federal appeals court judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, according to reports.

Garland has served as the chief judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia for almost two decades, and was confirmed to that position by a margin of 53 votes.
