NEW: Providence Police Respond to Reports of Armed Robbery, Multiple Shootings Overnight

Providence police responded to reports of an armed robbery -- and multiple shootings -- in the city overnight. 

Saturday 6:38 PM -- Armed Robbery Reported

Police responded to a report of a robbery at Central Station on 325 Washington Street for a robbery report.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victim, who stated on October 12 he was robbed, when he was riding his bicycle on Dora Street towards Terrace Avenue around 8:30 PM. He said two unidentified male subjects standing at the corner of the intersection approached him. He said the first subject had a black pocketknife in his possession and the second subject was in possession of a black firearm. 

The victim said he started to pedal up the street when the two male subjects pushed him off his bike. He said the subject with the knife held him face down and placed the knife to his throat while they ordered him to into a vehicle, where the victim said the subject with the firearm chambered a round and pointed it at him and yelled at him to give him his money, shirt, and backpack, to which complied. The victim stated one of the subjects tied a t-shirt around his face, obstructing his vision, and then kicked him out of the vehicle on Progress Avenue. The victim said he walked home after the incident and did not notify police because the subjects threatened him.

According to the victim, the subjects stole $950.00 in cash, his Citizen's Bank debit card, and a backpack. The backpack contained his passport, a headlamp, batteries, and his house keys.

Saturday 8:55 PM -- Shots Fired 

Police were dispatched to 59 Alverson Avenue for a report of shell casings found in the driveway of 63 Alverson Avenue.

Police spoke to the caller, who stated that she heard what sounded like gunshots the previous night, but did not call because she thought they were fireworks or a car driving by. 

When she came outside Saturday morning she observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the rear passenger side of the vehicle. Police observed the damage, which appeared to be consistent with a bullet hole. The witness also stated to police she located six shell casings in the driveway of 63 Alverson. Police observed there to be 6 spent shell casings in the driveway of 63 Alverson. The witness stated she did look out the window when she heard the gun shots and observed a dark gray or black pickup truck to be driving at a high rate of speed down Alverson Avenue. 

Police also observed another vehicle to have damage on the driver side door consistent with being struck by a bullet. Police could not locate an owner for the vehicle on scene

Saturday 11:30 PM -- Shots Fired, Gun Located

Police responded to the area of 139 Metcalf Street for multiple reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police observed three individuals standing in front of 144 Metcalf Street. Police approached the individuals, and saw that one of the individual's faces was swollen and his shirt was torn.

Police asked what had happened to which he replied there was just a fight. Police then asked him if there was a shooting or if anyone had been shot to which he replied there was not. While officers on scene were speaking with him, they observed a stock of what appeared to be a firearm by a bush. Police approached the suspected firearm and were able to observe a Del-ton DTI-15 with a magazine inside the magazine well. Due to officer safety concerns police immediately removed the magazine from the magazine well and cleared the weapon revealing the magazine was empty and there was one live round in the chamber.

Police then asked the witness what he knew about the rifle to which he replied that it was his. He continued by describing to police that he had left a party in Pawtucket and as he exited his vehicle to enter his home he was approached by five to six males. He stated that these males assaulted him and he was able to briefly escape into his home. He stated to police that he retrieved his rifle, exited his home, and fired two to three rounds as the males fled on foot southbound on Metcalf Street.

The witness was patted down for weapons and secured in the rear of a marked Providence Police cruiser Police canvased the area which revealed two spent rifle casings on the street and a loaded magazine under a vehicle. It was later revealed that the loaded magazine located on scene contained 29 live .223 rounds.

The witness was handcuffed while sitting in the rear of the marked cruiser and transported to Roger Williams Hospital due to his injuries.

Sunday 2:39 AM -- Shooting, Magazines Located

Police were dispatched to the area of 57 Berkshire Street or a report of shots fired.  Upon arrival, police found a one spent shell casing, and spoke to several subjects who were uncooperative.

While there, Police observed a large disturbance coming from the area of 37 Berkshire Street. Police responded to the disturbance, at which time, police observed a male subject fleeing from the area, at which time, police proceeded to chase Edrich on foot. 

Police observed the subject fleeing towards a nearby parking lot and were able to apprehend him and place him in the rear a marked cruiser pending investigation. Police then located a small black fanny bag resting on one black magazine containing one 9mm Luger round. Inside the bag police located a second black magazine containing (8) 9mm Luger rounds. 

Sunday 2:44 AM -- Shots Heard

Providence police were at the intersection of Dexter Street and Bellevue Avenue on a car accident scene. While on scene police heard approximately 2-3 gun shots resonating from the area of Potters Avenue and Elmwood Avenue.

Sunday 2:52 AM - Reports of Shots Fired

Police were dispatched to the area of Hollywood Avenue and Dexter Street for a report of shots fired. Dispatch advised that a caller reported seeing a group of people arguing and then hearing 4-5 shots.

Upon arrival police made contact with the witness who wished to remain anonymous. This witness stated to police that he was inside his home when he heard a loud argument on the street at the intersection of Westminster Street and Dexter Street. As he was looking outside he saw 4-5 subjects standing by a vehicle, and simultaneously, he heard gunshots and a female screaming. He then observed the subjects all enter the car and fleeing. 

Police canvased the area but were unable to locate a [crime] scene.
