NEW: Raimondo to Answer Calls Regarding Unclaimed Property

Rhode Island General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo will be answering phones at the Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division this afternoon to address people’s questions and inquiries about the recently released unclaimed property list. There are about 21,000 names on the list and the total unclaimed property amounts to approximately $9.7 million.

"As General Treasurer, it's my job to keep unclaimed properties safe until I can return them to their rightful owners," Raimondo said. "I urge all Rhode Islanders to not only look for their names in the printed book, but to check our online database for archived claims."

Every year the state is left with millions of dollars in unclaimed property from various sources. These include money from old payroll checks, inactive accounts, and life insurance policies, plus valuables from safe deposit boxes and income from stocks and dividends and overpayments.

You can see this year’s list along with the unclaimed archives by visiting the Unclaimed Property Link at the Treasury Web site. There is no cost to search and recover any of the $146 million in property that the Treasury has amassed since the 1950’s. Raimondo will be answering calls from 3:30 to 4:30 PM.
