It marks the third-highest reported day, after RIDOH reported 138 cases on July 27 and 124 on July 29 respectively. These are the highest days since May, when the state reported 179 cases on May 29.

The jump spikes the three-day average of infections from 72 on Monday to 84 on Tuesday.

RIDOH reported having conducted 4,558 tests the prior day.

As GoLocal has reported, there has been a significant delay — and backlog — in testing in nursing homes and across the state. The numbers reported could reflect cases tested from as much as a week ago or more.

There currently remain 80 hospitalizations — with a three day average of 80 — up from the three-day average low of 62 on July 7.
