NEW: RI Pension Investigation Kickstarter Campaign by Forbes' Siedle Goes Live

Edward Siedle
Former SEC lawyer and Forbes columnist Edward Siedle, who investigated then-General Treasurer Gina Raimondo's pension investments in 2013, has officially launched a crowd-funded investigation of Rhode Island's state pension on Kickstarter.

Siedle had announced earlier in March his intent to crowdsource his new investigation.

"This is a paradigm shift," said Siedle. "And one of the upsides is that there's anonymity -- if individuals want to to have funds investigated, they can do so with complete privacy."

"If we are successful in our fundraising, Rhode Islanders will be the first in the nation to establish an entirely new retirement plan paradigm—where workers and other stakeholders who pay into retirement plans will finally have a voice in how the plan is run. Workers in other state pensions will surely follow our crowd-funding initiative," said Siedle. "The goal of this project is to provide stakeholders in our state’s retirement plan with an independent, expert review—a “second opinion”—which can be used to improve the structure, investments and performance of the plan, as well as address potential violations of law."

Siedle said his "easily achievable funding goal" is $20,000.00.

"We need only $25.00 from 800 people over the next thirty (30) days," said Siedle. "Of course, you’re welcome to contribute more.
