NEW: RI Ranked 7th Most Liberal State in America

A quick look at the makeup of the General Assembly will tell you Rhode Island is a fairly liberal state but did you know that the Ocean State is tied with Washington as the seventh most-liberal state in the country?

At least, that’s what a new Gallup poll released today says.

With 28.3 percent of residents identifying as ideologically liberal, the Ocean State finished behind only the District of Columbia (40.8), Massachusetts (30.5), Oregon (29.3), Vermont (29.2), Delaware (28.4) and Connecticut (28.4) in the poll.

Perhaps more surprising, however, was where the state ranked in terms of residents who identified themselves as moderate, as Rhode Island was second only to Alaska in that category nationwide. Overall, 41.5 percent of respondents said they identified as "moderate".

Gallup's poll found that Alabama was the most conservative state in the country as 50.6 percent of residents identified their ideology as conservative. North Dakota and Wyoming tied for 2nd with 48.6 percent conservative.
