NEW: RI Schools Get C+ on National Report Card

Education Week has released its annual report which grades states on their education performance. This year, Rhode Island finishes 13th among the 50 states and Washington DC, with an overall score of 78.5 out of 100 points and a grade of C+. The nation as a whole posts a grade of C.

The 2015 study of Quality Counts also focuses on early childhood education, and rates several different areas of education.

The state didn’t do so well in the K-12 achievement index, scoring a D+. According to the report, this is due to the fact that the state hasn’t closed the achievement gaps between white and minority students, along with a large gap in achievement between poor students and more wealthy ones. The national score for the K-12 achievement index was C+.
