NEW: RI Unemployment Rate Down Slightly in November

The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November has decreased to 9.0 percent, according to the RI Department of Labor and Training. That figure is down two-tenths of a percentage point from October's unemployment rate, and down a full percentage point from November 2012.

The national unemployment rate for November was down three-tenths of a percentage point from October, coming in at 7.0 percent.

The number of unemployed Rhode Island residents; those classified as available for and actively seeking employment, was 49,500, down 900 from the previous month. Over the year, the number of those unemployed in the Ocean State dropped by 6,600.

The number of employed Rhode Islanders rose by 1,000 over the month, increasing to 501,300 in November. Over the year, the number of employed RI residents decreased by 5,400 from this time last year.

The state's labor force totaled 550,800 in November, up slightly from October, but down 12,000 from last November.
