NEW: RIPTA Bus Involved in Accident in Downtown Providence on Memorial Boulevard

A RIPTA bus was involved in an accident on Memorial Boulevard in Providence Tuesday morning.

According to the RIPTA driver, an SUV heading south on Memorial Boulevard took a left onto College Street in front of the bus, as the bus was traveling north shortly before 10 a.m.

The driver said the bus struck the back of the SUV as it went through the intersection.

Damage could be seen on the right front side of the bus, as well as the right rear wheel of the SUV where it was hit.

The bus driver told GoLocal she had witnesses to the accident — and that she was not hurt. 

Occupants of the SUV were transported from the scene in an ambulance. 

Public safety, including fire and police, were on the scene minutes after the accident.
