NEW: School Closings Announcement Coming Today

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras will announce this afternoon a list of schools recommended for closure.

In a press release, the city said it compiled the list of recommended schools after an analysis of school infrastructure, academic progress, student populations, and potential savings associated with the closing or reorganization of schools.

In compliance with school district policies, the Providence School Board will hold a public hearing before taking a vote to close schools. Those dates have yet to be announced.
