NEW: Walmart to Offer Check-Cashing Services
Walmart will begin offering check-cashing services in Rhode Island in 2012, starting with tax refunds as it decides whether to offer the services in the state for the long-term.
Rhode Island is one of only three states where the company isn't already offering check-cashing.
The company charges 50 cents to cash a check, which raises questions about what will happen to some of the already-existing check-cashing businesses that charge significantly higher rates.
