Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi on Thursday responded to what he said have been political rumors about him taking a state job.

Picozzi, who was first elected in 2020 and was re-elected in 2022, said he has "every intention" of remaining in office -- and running for re-election in 2024.

On Thursday, Picozzi announced the following:

"I’ve been told about a rumor, with several different variations, that’s been circulating. The versions include that I’m going to resign and get a cushy state job and another version that I’m not going to run for re-election and then get a state job.

Complete nonsense. A really stupid and completely false rumor started and spread by  people who have nothing better to do.

Let me state clearly, publicly, and for the record: I have every intention of completing my term and my plan is to run for re-election in November of 2024. There won’t be a formal announcement until the appropriate time, about a year from now. But if it’s a clue for anyone, I have a fundraiser planned for April 12th.

The notion that I’m getting some kind of patronage job is completely laughable. I am a political outsider and would be never given a job, nor would I take or want one.

When I decide to leave this job I will strap my tool belt back on.

This kind of nonsense gets very old."
