NFL, Retailers Pushing Vick Jersey Sales Ahead of Controversial Pro Bowl Appearance
In 2007, Vick pled guilty for his involvement in a dogfighting ring and spent 21 months in federal prison.
In Rhode Island, a top animal rights activist called out the NFL for honoring former league quarterback Vick as one of its 2020 “Pro Bowl Legends Captains.”
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTOn Monday, another Rhode Island animal rights supporter, Brandon Cota -- who has been outspoken against Vick being honored in this year's Pro Bowl -- took to Facebook, after a Macy’s ad for Vick’s Virginia Tech football jersey showed up in his feed.
“Macy’s is trolling a bit today,” said Cota, who had just recently shared the Village Voice article, “Reminder: Michael Vick’s Dogs Were Shot, Electrocuted, Hanged, and Beaten to Death.”

Cota, who is vegan, pointed out the irony of the situation.
“Might as well try to sell me meat, too,” he told GoLocal.
The NFL features multiple Vick jerseys on its site, averaging $149.99.
Latest with Vick — and Rhode Island
Last week, GoLocal reported that Rhode Island animal rights activist Dennis Tabella — who called out the National Football League for honoring former league quarterback Michael Vick as one of its 2020 “Pro Bowl Legends Captains” — is now urging people to contact Pro Bowl sponsor Verizon.
Neither Verizon's Providence community relations spokesperson nor the NFL's communications office would respond to request for comment.
Last week, the NFL announced that Pro Football Hall of Famers Terrell Davis, Darrell Green and Bruce Smith, and “NFL Legend” Vick will serve as 2020 Pro Bowl Legends Captains.
