Two Men Shot

Shortly before 7 PM, police responded to Tom’s Food Mart on Chalkstone Avenue for a report of two shooting victims.

Police said when they arrived, they encountered an SUV with its front and rear windows shattered, and a bullet hole in the rear passenger door.

According to police, the victims — both males in their 20s — were inside the store. Police say one victim appeared to have been shot in the leg and the other victim was shot in the arm.

The victims were taken to Rhode Island Hospital; police said they found two spent shell casings at the scene.

Man Stabbed Then Shot

Police responded to a report of shots fired at the corner of Prudence and Pocasset Avenues shortly after 9 PM.

When they arrived, police said they saw a trail of blood on the street, sidewalk, and leading into the convenience store at the location.

A witness told police that two men had been fighting on Prudence Avenue when one man was stabbed.

As the victim went to flee on foot, he was shot, according to the witness.

Providence Police said Cranston Police and Fire were on the scene first and had transported the victim to the hospital.

Firearm Seized

Following the shooting on Chalkstone Avenue, police said that as they were patrolling the area, they saw a group of individuals — including one known to police with a previous firearms charge — standing by a vehicle.

Police said they observed one individual, later identified as Robelin Veloz-Suarez, age 19, to be in possession of a gun protruding from his waistband.

According to police, when they went to approach Veloz-Suarez, he ran from police into a home on Leander Street.

Police say they entered the residence and ordered Veloz-Suarez out, to which he complied.

Upon searching the residence, police said they located a “ghost gun” containing both a live round and extended magazine.

Veloz-Suarez was taken to Central Station and is facing charges of possession of a firearm without a license and possession of a ghost gun.

Police said there is no evidence at this time the gun is connected with the Chalkstone Avenue shooting.
