UPDATED: North Kingstown Police Officer Taken to Hospital, Shots Fired, Man Arrested

GoLocal has learned that an incident unfolded at the Park & Ride in North Kingstown, which led to the Town Beach in North Kingstown.

The incident took place at about 8:00 PM on Friday.

According to the State Police, members of the Rhode Island State Police, North Kingstown Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),and the law enforcement were working an undercover sting operation to arrest a suspected child predator.

In addition, State Police said, "the Rhode Island Office of Attorney General Special Victims Unit, and the U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) collaborated in an undercover operation to arrest a suspected child predator."

During the investigation, Alec Perry, 30,  Pawtucket, who police say was engaged in an extended series of text messages soliciting sex from an undercover police officer whom he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

Perry believed he would be meeting a thirteen-year-old girl for a sexual encounter at a Park and Ride in North Kingstown.

While police attempted to place Perry in custody, he accelerated his vehicle, striking a North Kingstown police officer. The officer remains in the hospital in stable condition.

During this incident, several officers discharged their firearms. Perry attempted to escape custody and led the officers on a short vehicle pursuit before crashing his vehicle. After a brief foot pursuit, he was taken into custody.

 

Perry was charged with the following:

 

 Indecent Solicitation of a Child
Electronically Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors
Felony Assault
Driving without the Consent of the Owner
Eluding Law Enforcement – 2nd Offense
Assault of a Police Officer
Resisting Arrest
Obstruction of a Police Officer
Duty to Stop in an Accident resulting in Property Damage
Driving with a Suspended License – 4th + Offense

 

Perry is also on probation for previous charges of First-Degree Robbery, Felony Assault, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Perry was transported to the Rhode Island State Police Wickford Barracks, processed, and arraigned by a Justice of the Peace. He was then transported to the Adult Correctional Institution, where he will be held as a Probation Violator in addition to his multiple charges.
