UPDATED: New Details Emerge Following Car Crash Into Seekonk River Off Fox Point Park
A car went off a boat ramp into the Seekonk River in Providence overnight — and more details are emerging as to what transpired.
As GoLocal first reported, a woman told police Sunday morning she was the passenger in the vehicle that went into the water, after being able to escape the submerged car.

New Details
Police were called to the boat ramp on Transit Street in Fox Point for a report of a possible vehicle in the water.
According to police, they met with a woman in her 30s, who was wet and crying.
The woman told police she had been sitting in the car on a date with a man she had met online, and that he had become angry with her -- before accelerating the vehicle into the water.
She told police she did not know where the man went after she escaped from the submerged vehicle.
Police said that after the vehicle was pulled from the water there was no sign of the male; police said that a license matching his description was found in the water.
Based on surveillance video from the area, police believe the male described was seen leaving the area and a water search was subsequently called off.

GoLocal first broke the story on Sunday morning with the following information.
Police and rescue were on the scene early Sunday morning at the Gano Park boat launch. More than a half dozen emergency response vehicles were on site.
The ramp is located just off of Gano Street in the Fox Point section of the city. According to law enforcement, a car was located in the water in the Seekonk River.
One witness said the car was more than 30 yards off the ramp in the water.
Police say the female passenger was located and taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
She does not have serious injuries, according to police.
A male driver is reportedly missing at this time.
Detectives are currently investigating.
