Over 16,000 RI Energy Customers Without Power Thursday, Tree Damage Reported Around State

There are over 16,400 RI Energy customers without power in Rhode Island, following strong thunderstorms — and wind — overnight.

According to the power outage map, there were 148 “active” outages as of 7 AM Thursday morning. 

On Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a severe weather outlook for all of southern New England.

Several tornado watches were issued throughout the evening. 

 

Incidents Reported

NWS’ storm report map shows dozens of incidents reported up the Eastern seaboard from New Jersey through Connecticut, Rhode Island, and then southeastern Massachusetts. 

Multiple storm reports were also logged on the NWS “Local Storm Report” page. 

In Providence, large tree limbs were downed on the East Side (see here) by the Brown University Athletics complex.
