PC Postpones Commencement, Classes to Remain Online for Rest of School Year

PC postpones Commencement, classes to remain online for rest of school year.
Providence College has announced that it has postponed its commencement ceremony due to the threat of the spread of coronavirus.

As of Friday, Rhode Island had 54 cases of coronavirus.

Commencement was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 17.

According to the school, there is no make-up date set at the time.

As GoLocalProv reported on Friday, Commencement ceremonies across the state could be canceled due to the coronavirus.

Due to the virus, The Omni Hotel in downtown Providence — adjacent to Providence Place Mall and the Rhode Island Convention Center -- announced it is closed until at least June.

As GoLocal wrote, "Each spring, colleges, and universities in the state, from the University of Rhode Island to the Naval War College to Bryant University, graduate tens of thousands each year. Combined, the colleges, including the community colleges, have a total enrollment of approximately 70,000 students."

Classes Remain Online

PC also announced that classes will remain online for the rest of the semester.

As GoLocalProv reported, PC had originally announced that students would be able to return to campus by April 14.
